He took a degree in Philosophy and Arts and a doctor’s degree in History at the University of Santiago.
He was assistant (1979) and head of the Geography and History Department (1981) in Secondary Schools. From 1983 to 1985, he directed the Secondary School of Sarria. In 1985, he joined Lucus Augusti Secondary School in Lugo. In 1989 he got a certificate as University expert on Social Science Didactics at the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid). From 1989 to 1998, he gave courses for teachers and worked as an advisor of Social Sciences in the Teaching Centre of Lugo. In 1998 he went back to Lucus Augusti Secondary School and became secretary of the centre in 1998.
He has been collaborating as a Professor in the Institute of Educational Sciences since 1985.
He was a member of the Seminar of Contemporary World History from 1986 to 1998.
He collaborated as rapporteur and lecturer in many courses, conferences and other activities all around Galicia, León and Valencia.
In 2006 he wrote the project for the Social Sciences area derived from the constitutional law of Education (2/2006, 3rd May) currently in force for Secondary Education in Galicia.
In collaboration with other authors he published several educational books such as “Historia do mundo contemporáneo. Síntese e documentos” (Vigo, Xerais, 1994), “De como estudiarmo-la Historia da España Contemporánea no Bacharelato” (A Coruña, Tambre, 1994) and “Materiais de Historia do mundo contemporáneo” (A Coruña, Tambre, 1995).
He collaborated in the 150th anniversary of Lucus Augusti Secondary School with several publications: “Orixes razoadas do Instituto lucense” (Lugo, 1992), “O Instituto de Lugo, a través dos seus documentos, 1842-1942” (Lugo, 1992), script of the video "O Instituto de Lugo, máis dun século de vida lucense" (Lugo, 1992) and “Unha visión do sistema educativo no primeiro liberalismo: 1842-1868” (Lugo, 1994).
He is also the author of “La Diputación provincial y los inicios de la instrucción pública en Lugo” (Diputación, Lugo, 1990) and “La Diputación provincial en la época isabelina” (Diputación, Lugo, 2005) and the joint author of the catalogue “Maximino Reboredo. Fotografías” (Xunta de Galicia, University of Santiago de Compostela and Dez de Marzo Foundation, 2003) and the book “Abrindo as portas ao San Froilán 1999” (Lugo City Council, 2000).
He has published many articles in ‘Lucus’, ‘Boletín del Museo provincial de Lugo’, ‘Croa’, ‘Revista Galega do Ensino’, ‘AULA de Historia Social’, ‘Dez EME’ and ‘Gran Enciclopedia Galega’.
In 2007, he collaborated with 17 biographies in the project of the Royal Academy of History for the elaboration of ‘Diccionario Biográfico de Autores’.
