He took a degree in Medicine at Santiago de Compostela University in 1979 and his doctor's degree in 1990. He worked as an orthopaedic surgery at 'Juan Canalejo' Hospital (1980-84) and the Clinical Hospital of Santiago (1986-93). He was the head of the Rheumatology Section at the Clinical Hospital of Santiago and worked as an assistant lecturer of Rheumatology in the Faculty of Medicine (Santiago University).
He wrote the book Reumatismos extrarticulares ('Masson' Publications), over fifty articles in medical magazines and over a hundred reports for scientific conferences.
He was the president of the Galician Society of Rheumatology.
