He took a doctor's degree in Literature, Language and Spanish and Latin American Culture (Illinois University, Campaigne-Urbana, 1974). He did an MA in Spanish Literature (Catholic University of America, 1971), postgraduate courses on Theology, Sociology and Psychology (Lovaina University, Belgium, 1969) and took his doctor's degree in Theology (Catholic University of America, 1964). He is an expert in the Generation of 1898, the Contemporary Latin American Narrative, the thought of the Golden Spanish Century as well as in Spanish Culture and Theology.
