He studied at the ‘Real Conservatorio Superior de Música’ in Madrid, and later attended the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where he was a ‘Barrié de la Maza’ scholar. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Maryland, College Park, studying on a full Fellowship.

 Work & Activities

He has written extensively in every genre, from concert music to movie soundtracks. His music has been interpreted by conductors such as C. Kalmar, H. Schellenberger, Víctor Pablo Pérez, and Teri Murai, and soloists as Daniel Gaisford, Eldar Nebolsin, Viacheslav Dinerchtein, Jonathan Gandelsman, Jennifer Bleick, and Nicholas Chords. He has been commissioned by the New York State Council on the Arts, Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Galician Royal Philharmonics, Meet the Composer, Guernica Project, and Chi-Mei Foundation, among others. Festivals include the Kölner MusikTriennale, the Prokofiev International Festival, Via Stellae Festival and Música en Compostela.

 Other Interesting Aspects

Since 1999 he resides in New York, where in addition to composing he is music director of the United Moravian Church, and a founding member of the Guernica Project Inc., an NGO that promotes international cooperation through music and the arts.
