He emigrated to Buenos Aires when he was seventeen. In 1938, he founded the professional company 'Aires da Terra', which was later called 'Compañía Galega Maruxa Villanueva'. This singer and actress also emigrated to Buenos Aires and he married her.

Castelao attended some performances and proposed him the stage desing for his play Os vellos non deben namorarse, which was first performed on 14th August 1941.
