He is a professor of Criminal Law at Santiago University and director of the higher curse on Judicial Law. He got extraordinary prizes when he took his degree and doctor's degree. From 1984 to 1986, he was the director of the Institute of Criminology. From 1986 to 1988, he directed de department of Special Public Law and was a member of the Doctorate Committee. From 1988 to 1994, he filled the office of dean in the Faculty of Law. During the period 1994-94, he became vice-rector of Santiago University. He is a member of the group of Studies on Criminal Politics. He was also a member of the Advisory Committee of the National Committee of Research Activity. From 1992 to 1996, he was a member of the penal of the Research Prizes 'Xunta de Galicia'.

He wrote six chapters of the book Derecho Penal y Procesal Penal (2000) and directed several doctoral theses. He has collaborated in the magazine 'Revista jurídica gallega' since it was founded in 1992. He directed several scientific congresses and took part in many specialization courses and conferences.
