He worked as a civil servant at the Tax Office in Vigo and Pontevedra. He was on the editorial staff of the magazine 'Cristal' together with Amado Carballo and other poets. In 1936, he was arrested and judged in court-martial. After being sentenced to thirty years in prison, his sentence was commuted to four years and a day. In 1940, he was released and moved to Madrid, where he participated in several activities organised by the Socialist Party in secrecy. As a result, he was arrested again and sentenced to eight years in prison. After being released, he worked again as a civil servant in the Tax Office.
