He took a degree in Biology (University of Santiago, 1985) and a doctor’s degree at the same university in 1992. He was granted a scholarship by the County Council of A Coruña (1986-88) and the Xunta de Galicia (1988-89). From 1993 to 1999, he filled different teaching posts at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Since 1999, he has coordinated the Fourth University Cycle for the Campus of Lugo. He has been vice-chancellor of the Polytechnic School (University of Santiago, 2000-2006) and temporary chancellor since June 2006. Since 1996, he has been giving seminars and participated in masters at the University of Santiago and has directed minor theses.
His research lines focus on agro-industrial wastes, pollution, heavy metals, nutrients, environmental control, ecology, endangered species, environmental management and biodiversity. He has participated in nine R&D projects financed in public bids and has published lots of reports and scientific documents. He stayed at foreign centres for some time (Cuba, Lisbon, Rennes, Italy and Holland).
In 1988, he was awarded a prize for research projects applied to business.
