In 1907, he entered the Infantry Academy of Toledo, where he was promoted to lieutenant in 1913 and captain in 1917. After participating in the campaign of Morocco, he was appointed to the military academy of Zaragoza in 1931. During the Civil War, he was promoted to colonel and brigadier-general. In 1940, he was nominated as undersecretary of the Ministry of the Army. In 1943, he was nominated as director general of the Civil Guard and promoted to lieutenant general in 1947. From 1957 to 1969 he was minister of the Interior.
He was awarded two medals for his military merit.
