He took a doctor's degree in Computer Science and Knowledge Engineering. He directed the first laboratory of artificial intelligence in Spain and was a visitor Professor at the Sunderland Polytechnic (Great Britain), the Joint Research Centre (USA) and Carnegie-Mellon University (USA). He also took part as rapporteur in several conferences such as SEID'2000, International Conference Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE'97).

These are some of his most important publications: Ingeniería del Conocimiento, CEURA, 1997; "Knowledge Engineering in Spain: Research Development and Demonstration (R&D2) Through Time" in Worldwide Expert Systems: Activities & Trends. Cognizant Comm. (1994); "Towards a Joint Life Cycle for Software and Knowledge Engineering" in Knowledge Oriented Software Design, IFIP, 1993 and "An University Course Advisor System" en Artificial Intelligence Technology: Applications and Management, Tata McGraw-Hill, 1993.

 Other Interesting Aspects

He created the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence in the Faculty of Computer Science (Polytechnical University - Madrid) and designed the methodology for knowledge management. He practises swimming and became Galician champion.
