He took a doctor's degree in Classic Philology at Salamanca University and has been a Professor of Latin Philology at Granada University since 1976.
He has published about two hundred works, some of them about classic theatre. He also works on Galician Literature in the 19th and 20th centuries, writing several volumes about Rosalía de Castro in collaboration with Aurora López. He has written some poetry books in Galician language (Versos para Aurora, 1999), journalistic stories (Galicia e Granada, 1988), short stories (Quince mulleres, quince momentos, 2000) and the novel Nas transparencias do Miño (unpublished). He has written several books about Latin Literature such as El tragediógrafo latino Lucio Acio, Granada, 1984; Comienzos de la poesía latina, Madrid, 1988; Estudios sobre Plauto, Madrid, 1998; Estudios sobre comedia romana, Francfort, 2000, etc. He has also written several books about Galician Literature such as Rosalía de Castro.
